40+ Years Experience In Raising and Using Santa Gertrudis Cattle Santa Gertrudis Cattle. That's what we do! It's not a hobby, it's our livelihood. We specialize in producing the kind of cattle that can go to the feedlot with consistent performance built in. About Five Oaks RanchAfter years of using Santa Gertrudis bulls in their own commercial operation and managing a family-owned purebred ranch, Wortham Bend Farms, Bill and Kati Barrett and their three daughters began Five Oaks Ranch. With foundation females and herd bulls purchased in the Wortham Bend Farms dispersal sale in 1980, Five Oaks was born. The ranch is headquartered on the Brazos River in the Wortham Bend community north of Waco, Texas, and cattle production is devoted to performance-based POLLED purebred Santa Gertrudis. The Five B Division is located near Iredell, Texas. The Barretts are devoted to identifying and producing high-performance, polled cattle that will make a profit in the feedlot as well as the pasture. Emphasis is placed on longevity, particularly in female family lines. A production sale is held the first Saturday in June each year. The annual sale offering includes 30 young polled herd sire prospects and 50 heifers. Located on 1960 acres in Walker and Madison Counties of Texas, the Barrett Tree Farm is recognized as an exemplary pine forest, having been named Texas Tree Farm of the Year 2000. The land has been in Kay Barrett's family for many generations and has been under the management of Bill and Kay Barrett since 1974. Working with forestry consultants, the Barretts have increased the volume of timber on the land more than ten-fold since that time. In 2009, the Barretts transferred ownership of the forestland to their three daughters who continue the same strict management practices their parents utilized during their stewardship of the property. About The BarrettsBill Barrett was born in Waco, Texas and was graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in Animal Science. Kati, a graduate of Sam Houston State University, is a journalist and writer. Together with their 3 children and their families, they operate Five Oaks Ranch and the Barrett Tree Farm. Bill Barrett is available for both Santa Gertrudis consulting and sale management. Recognized as an authority on Santa Gertrudis cattle, he is often called upon to conduct seminars and participate in other educational programs both in the U.S. and abroad. He and Kati make their home in Valley Mills, Texas and enjoy their five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
